The verse immediately preceding today’s text instructs us to “Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct” (Heb. 13:7) . Those who went before us taught us the way of righteousness; their lives and their teaching pointed us to the very One who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. As William MacDonald put it, “The gist of their teaching was this: Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The goal of their lives was Jesus, the same yesterday, today, and forever. The foundation of their message was that Jesus is the Christ, yesterday, today, and forever.”
What it would be to have such a single focus for our lives! But we do! The Lord Jesus Christ is the object for our souls. This is what we have had passed down to us! The message has not changed; it is the same because He has not changed and is the same, yesterday, today, and forever! Let us take this message with us as we walk through the day!
